I have about 6 charged off credit cards which were charged off when I became unemployed and was also going through a divorce. By my estimates they were charged off or should have been charged off sometime in late 99 or early 2000. What I want to know is if I should arrange settlements with the collection agencies that bought them or not. The reason why I'm asking is because I want to buy a house. I have ordered my credit reports and I'm disputing some of them because the charge off dates appear to be wrong as are the amounts. How effective is this? I'm afraid if I just wait 7 years for the stuff to fall off my children will be nearly grown and never get to live in a house of their own. Please advise.
Thanks
