Have you been served a summons ? Chances are, they'll serve it at your old address if you have not informed the attorney of your current address. They cannot force you to travel to VA from Florida to appear in court, but if you don't do something, they WILL win a default judgment there. It won't have any immediate effect on you unless they then move the judgment to FL.

You need to find out if a summons has been issued and/or served. Call the courthouse in VA and find out. If it has been served, then you need to get a copy of it and you need to file an Answer to the Complaint. You CAN petition the court for a change in venue to move the court hearing to FL since you no longer live in VA..

Yes, you can probable settle, but you're not going to accomplish this over the phone. Anything NOT in writing can be easily denied, 'forgotten', etc., so you need to do it in WRITING and send it Certified, RRR the suing attorney. Negotiate deletion from your credit report for payment.
