You are wrong, a lien can be placed against any property in which you have an ownership interest. It cannot, of course be enforced if the property is exempt, however it will interfere wth a sale or refinancing. The property may even (if not exempt) be seized and sold IF the interests are divisible. A judgment in one State can be "domesticated" in another State,and used to place a lien on assets that are now, or may in the future be assailable. This of course, is not very likely in consumer debt, however if you had a VERY large $$ judgment in State A, and a KNOWN future interest in real property of high $$ value in State B, and the laws of each State and the SOL for the judgment permitted, then it would be very likely.
