They tried to 'take the money'? They are considered experts in their field, you are not. They know better, you are merely trying to fulfill their most deceptive contract. They'll threaten arrest of course, they'll threaten anything because they are in fact thugs, criminals, cheats who are merely licensed as legitimate businesses. If fact they are just good old fashioned loan sharks.
For fun sometime check out a film, L.A. Confidential, Kevin Spacey and Russell Crowe star among others. It's set in L.A. fifty years ago. Theme? The government and legit businessmen are taking over the rackets. So here we are fifty years later.
We don't have sharkskin suited loansharks anymore, we have 'payday loan' companies, legally licensed by the state. Hmmmmm.
As my dear friend honest Tom so well states, "When you take out a credit card, loan, or in any way have dealings with some money changer these days you don't know who you're getting involved with. If you're lucky, it's only the Mafia." Telling words. Smash these clowns in their bent-nose faces with every legal resource you can hurl.
In the future, try to think of the credit economy as a sewer crawling with thugs, cheats, crooks, slimbags - and they are the upper end of the scale. The changes wreaked upon this country during the past decade are only starting to be noticed, it will become more interesting with time's tortuous passage.
Down heah in Flo-riddah, why we have good ol' boy cracker politicians who done protected us heahr little people from payday loan sharks. Dey done passed demselves a law what sez dat when you want a payday loan, you have to go to a 'privately run' credit counseling 'service' first. And if any problems afterward with these sharks, you go to the 'counselors'.
And who might be running these private - i.e. you pay them - counseling 'services', you ask? Why of course it wouldn't be the country kissin' cousins of the payday loan sharks, would it? My,my, such a cynical, mean-spirited thing to say.

Mean-spiritedly,

Keyser Soze

"Go back to Jersey fella, this is the City of the
Angels, and you haven't got any wings."
- Captain Dudley Smith,
"L.A. Confidential", c.1997
