Expired SOL, bounced around to new CAs

I finally got the last CA to stop calling us about a delinquency on a car repo (I'm in NC, the car went into delinquency in 1996, repo'd in early 1997). Since SOL is expired, we're just planning to let the entry age off the credit report in a few months. But now a new CA is putting inquiries onto my credit report. They have not yet contacted us, and they can't actually DO anything to us, but multiple hard inquiries on my credit report are damaging, especially from CAs. And those inquiries will stay on past the expiration of the actual repo. The original creditor was Mazda American Credit (now owned by Ford, I think). What can I do to make them (Mazda) stop sending this out to CAs? The CAs are not actually reporting the account (they can't of course), but an inquiry is an inquiry.... And this is the 3rd CA in as many months. Thanks guys.
