I recently pulled up my credit reports from all 3 reporting agencies. I wanted to try and clean up my credit report but am unsure what to do about past due accounts.

I have one from First USA bank in the amount of $10,557 with the last date of activity on 5/2001. It was reported charged off as of 12/2001 but only for $9,832. A past due amount of $1,430 still shows on my credit report.

The Second one is from Nextcard in the amount of $4,025 with the last date of activity on 5/2001. It was reported charged off as of 7/2002 and states that the account was transferred or sold.

My question is why would First USA bank not charge off the whole debt? Also, aren't they supposed to charge off the debt 180 days from the date of last activity? My calculations would put the charge off as of 11/2001.

As for Nextcard, why would they wait so long to charge it off? Is this legal for them to do? Someone claiming to be from Nextcard continues to call my previous residence from time to time even though the person whom lives there now continues to tell them I do not live there anymore. First USA gave up calling a long time ago.
