It would be, in my opinion VERY unlikely that any Court would rule that a medical expense incurred by a spouse in a community property State is NOT a joint obligation.

I suppose, that if they were legally separated, and she had cosmetic surgery, that it COULD be argued that it was not medically neccessary and did not constitute a joint debt. But anything else would be considered a joint obligstion in Ca.

Just out of curiosity, what is YOUR interest in this situation? You are not either the husband or the spouse- so ????
