The 'reasonable' bit is just a ploy from this scheisster scumbag who can't work for a real law firm. You're right on the money - he is trying to confuse you in hope of tricking you into making a damaging admission. WhyChat leads you to fresher waters with his priceless counsel vis-a-vis 'lacking knowledge'. Better to plead this than deny something and be proven incorrect.
Look, this is the greaseball lawyer's picnic. He invited you by force of law and now he wants you to serve up the sandwiches? let him prove his own stupid case, help him not one iota.
Remember the immortal words of Chief Simcox:" when they ask you, just play the dumb civilian." The lawyer is the expert by definition, you are not thus aren't expected to know all the nuances of trial procedure and the law. Let him self-reveal as maggot of the month. Also, the more you plead lack of knowledge, the harder he must work to prove his case. These punks don't want to work at all, they just like the easy money which comes from default judgements. The more you make him chase your paper, the more his blood soaked bank account hemorhhages. Good for you, anemic for him, the little moth-eaten consumptive.

Easily,

Keyser Soze
