As far as credit reporting goes they can only report it for 7 years from the date you were delinquent. Collection agencies #1 reason for putting entries on your credit report at all is to get your attention and get you to deal with them. They are always going to update it..Update means nothing as far as the time it can be reported is concerned. It just means that when they send their reels, or whatever they use, to the CRA..you are still on it and still reportable. If I were you I would just forget them. You can tell the collection agencies to stop contacting you or just change your phone number however, I wouldn't pay them. As long as your debts are all from 1997 you don't have much to worry about.
