The CCCS are so called 'non-profit' organization. Their loyaly is to themselfs. Some are legit and they really do work out programs for you. Usually they are through a church. Others are not, they promise you the moon and really do nothing. Working for the credit card industry for the last couple years, I can tell you most do not care about the credit card company or you and are only out there to get the administrative fee. If you sign up with one make sure that 1). All your creditors actualy recive their proposals 2). They are accepted by your creditors 3). All You payments are made on time 4). It does not cost you anything (or very little), there are plently of no-cost CCCS apply for the hardship with them. 5). Make sure they are actualy able to reduce your APR (not just make pymnts) Also make sure to check the BBB for the the CCCS you chose.. ALso you creditor can refer you to one that works. Credit Counseling of America in Arizona works, they them. Also compare offers from diffrent CCCS and find the best one. Do not jump the gun! Keep in mind it will report on you credit reports that you are working with Debt Managment, however, it may be a lot better then charge off, deliqnency, or high APR.
