I would guess you are beyond the legal time for collection.

If you get your Experian report and look at the OC entry, it should say when it is scheduled for removal, deduct 4 years from that date,that will tell you if their time is up to sue you on this debt.

If you are beyond the SOL, and you pay them a ¢ you are throwing money down a rat hole, and making sure your credit reports will be ruined for another 7 years.
