Greetings,

Two and half years, I ran into financial problems after I was laid off from a dotcom company. As a result, I defaulted on three credit cards as well as a computer loan and a gym membership. I recently found a job and I have already settled with and paid off one of the credit cards. The total amount I currently owe is 5000k.

Unfortunately, I can not rent an apartment or buy a car. Therefore, I have few questions?

1) If I pay whatever I own, is there a way I can clean up my credit file?
2) Will going to Consumer Credit Counseling help me clean up my credit file?
3) Will it be easier if I file bankruptcy?!
4) Will a lawyer be any help?!
5) If I settle with the remaining CC companies, can they remove the negative comments from my file?

Many thanks in advance for your input.

- Gare
