Hi, I'm a bit confused about a mess I'm in. I went default on my account due to extended unemployment and other issues.

As of today my credit report reads "Account charged off/Past due 180 days. $864 written off. $138 past due as of 6-2003." Which I have no idea what that means.

A couple of weeks ago I recieved a collection letter from Northland group for a store they call "HSB DBA" stating that "Our client is offering a discount on the balance. Upon receipt of $518.56 cleared funds, your account will be considered resolved and we will issue you a letter stating this account is settled. The client will also send you a 1099 form on writeoffs over six hundred dollars."

A few days before I got this letter ( Which doesn't sound very offical to me ) I saw a credit check from the Northland group.

I tried contacting radio shack who referred me to CBUSA asking if they referred my account to the northland group. No one at the two companies seemed to know anything about it. They gave me a few other numbers to try but I was unable to get through. Today they had a automated voice message call me on a company number.

So what i'm wondering is: What the heck do I do? Thanks for any advice
