AS I understand it, when a bad debt buyer buys a debt they are accepting responsibility that you will pay it. A collection agency can only sue when they are acting in the interest of a creditor that has lost money. You have no obligation to a bad debt buyer because you never had a contract with them. I'm not sure. You should find out if MBNA actually sold your debt. Credit reports list both collection agencies and original creditors. Like I said 9,000 is a lot for a credit card to sell.
