Summon

Hello there...I've been reading quite a bit on this board, but can still use some advice/answers.

Last night I was served (?) a summons that does not seem to be very official. It's from Upton, Cohen & Slamowitz here in NY. The reason I am suspicious is that the index number is the same "file" number they've been putting on their collection letters for the last few months. Also, there is a typo in the body of the text and the standard phrase "This communication is from a debt collector..." I wouldn't imagine that gets onto court documents.

Anyway, my question is: should I still answer this summons? I do owe a debt and have actually tried to get the original creditor to settle (they want 80%). Should I try to negotiate payments with the lawyers? Should I wait to see what happens in court?

Thanks!
