My "Do Not Call" Answer

Now that the economy is slack and everyone I know is losing their jobs, I keep hearing all the sobs about the CAs calling and harrassing people at home and on their Cell phones.

1st off. They got your Cell # because YOU gave it away to some telemarketer or spammer at some point and now it's on distribution lists and other lists linking your name to that #. Remember the "Win a car" raffle you signed up for? Never won a car did you? Did you have your roof repaired last year and gave the guy your cell #? He probably sold the entire list of clients and now there's probably even a database somewhere that says you've had roof damage on you house and how much you paid to fix it!

Now that the CA's are calling, What do you do?

I tell them "This is my work number. Don't ever call me here again." - Sometimes they reply "I have this as your home number.", to which I reply "You're mistaken. This is my work number" and hang up.

This works really well. Most CAs never call back again.

Sometimes, when I recognize a number calling, I answer the phone with a random company greeting without stating my name. When the CA asks for me I ask them "He's out of the office right now may I take a message?", to which they seem surprised and give a short nondescript message, and I say "I told that deadbeat more than once he'd better cut the personal calls or I'd can his Butt.", "This is the third time I've seen this number on our caller ID and I know you're not one of our accounts." I've never heard back from CAs that I treated in this manner.

Anyhow, my point is that no matter what we want to say about CAs, they are simply trying to do their jobs and it's our fault for not paying our bills on time. It wastes both of our time when we repetitively try to ditch them and force them to call us day in and out.

My method puts a quick stop to all calls because they will not take the chance of causing me to lose a job and getting sued for it.

I'm up to my neck in collections and I'm not getting out anytime soon. Why should I be miserable everytime the phone rings when I can have a little fun with it?
