I've been on the phone with the collector at the attorneys' office. He told me flat out that no complaint had been filed yet and that because I called, indicating that I want to work something out, he can "take care of it". I heard that as "we were threatening you and because you called, we won't actually file the complaint".

It seems like a bad idea to trust these people, so maybe I'll go ahead and answer the summons just so there is no default judgement at some point. Would they need to serve another summons if they never file this complaint and wanted to start it up again?
