I think I just stepped in something, pardon me but the stench is rather telling. Though it hardly bears mention, the misleading, gratuitous advice offered as it is with a heavy layer of moralistic preachiness is advice best left ignored.

This debt is probably SOL, not collectable, as Observer kindly inquires, see if you can just hang on another five months.

To contact the CA now, as recommended by one we had hoped was long lost, is about the worst thing you can do. You will reset the SOL, they will settle only after an awful fight and any amoung they falsely tell you is forgiven is surely not. They will sell the 'forgiven' debt to some litter-box sandsnake mutant relative who also runs a collection agency and the fun starts all over again.
They will sue you after you settle claiming they want more, your credit is wrecked forever, the home of your dreams a memory.

At least, that's what will occur should you follow the mendacious, insipid, putrefacted 'advice' of the poster whose initials are those for BullShale, something best not even stepped on though the temptation is surely understandable.

You're almost out of the woods. Don't shackle yourself to some treacle-turd-tart's tree on the way out just because someone who slipped the confines of their straightjacket posted an answer to your questions. Thank you for your service to this country. Too bad Mr. BullShale wasn't on the other side of the DMZ.

Prosperously.
