Your wife is considered disabled under the law and may well enjoy protections as such. A letter from the physician should put these greasebags on notice that in addition to SOL time-barred problems and the harassing calls, the dread "L" word may well come to be spoken. After all, their conduct is absolutely by definition detrimental to the health and treament of your spouse and the doctor will surely attest to that. Their behavior would easily be seen as reckless especially in light of the amount claimed owed that the SOL aspects.
If you've not already so done, start keeping a journal of all contacts from these predatory scumbags, make note of every bit of distress and discomfort in your wife's words and also by your observations and those of others in your family.
No one has the right to act in this manner, this makes doctors and many others see red. Nail these pukes to the nearest tire shredder.
