Help Please

Hello, Im in need of help. I got a household bank card about 2 years ago, and like everyone else lost my job, so i wasnt making the payments, they sent it to a couple of collection agencies, i still couldnt pay them , then i finally got a call from a law firm all the way in new york city, im in north carolina. They said I would be sued if i didnt pay them the balance, so i setup payments with them. The balance was 2400 dollars then. I got it all the way down to 1000 dollars, and now ive bounced one of the checks to them, and they just called me up harrasing me about taking me to court over the bad check, if i didnt setup payment with them now. Well I did, my qusetion is could they have actually did this, or is this scare tactics,and one more question, what is the mininum amount that a credit card company sue u for? any help would be appreciated.
