I got a phone call yesterday from a woman who said she was a paralegal calling from the law offices of Wolpoff & Abramson. This is exactly how the first part of the conversation went: She said, "hello, I am a paralegal calling from the law offices of Wolpoff & Abramson. We have been retained by one of your creditors to collect a debt for $906. When can expect your check."

What? I asked her what this is about and her response was "I just told you." So we went round and round. I asked questions, her answers were very vague. Not exactly what I would expect from a Law Office. They never sent me anything in writing, all I got was a phone call, and they gave me until Friday to pony up the cash. I have done my research on this company and have not read very favorable things about them. I am not exactly sure they are a law office. Has anybody ever heard of them? Are they really a law office? I'm not afraid of being sued. If I owe the money, I will pay it. The thing is, I don't see anything on my credit report that pertains to this. I am current on all my credit card payments, but did go through some financial woes 10 years ago. I'm thinking this is a very old debt, but I don't know what it's for.
