Do they have to tell me my court date?

I was served papers in my absence, which I guess is OK to do in TX. They just left them on the door.

I answered the Summons and stated that I knew nothing of the Citibank account in question and motioned the court to ask for more Validation information from Citibank and the Lawyer because what they submitted as evidence for the petition was just a late payment notice and a notarized letter from one of their employees stating that they were "verifying" it.

I know that my answer has been received and that a pre-trial date has been set, but the court has not yet informed me of the date.

My questions are:
In TX can they just send a letter to notify me of the pre-trial or do they need to "serve" papers for this? Can they send a Certified letter?

What if they cannot inform me of my court date? does it get continued until they can serve me notice?

Am I obligated to call and ask for my court date?

Am I asking the right questions here or is there something I'm missing?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
