What is the statue of limitation on a bounced check?

Hi.. I received a letter from a lawyers office today looking to collect $18.93 + 25.00 fine..
The check was writtin on 10-10-98. It doesnt say who it is for. What is the statue of limitations to collect on something like this? Thanks in advance for your time
