By law, they have to follow up within 5 days of the first time they contacted you with a written notice giving you 30 days to dispute all or any part of the debt before they can assume the debt is valid. When you receive that letter, you have 30 days to dispute the debt and demand verification and validation. They can take legal action at any time. If you send them a letter demanding validation and verification, they have to cease all collection efforts until they provde with that information.
