Here is the situation. I am in Missouri and had a dentist bill from 1998. At that time I was over 18 so they put it in my name, but the insurance was all run through my fathers name. I tried to get them to put the bill in my fathers name at the dentists office but they said since i was over 18 they *had* to put it in my name.

Fast forward about 6 months. I assume (yes, first mistake) that my father paid the bill like he said he would but i find a notice from a lawyer that they are taking me to court over this. Well, the day of the hearing my father went in (finally) and paid it off. Now, 5 years later, it shows up on my credit report as Paid but it shows under the collection agency information. I want it off since it honestly wasnt mine in the first place. I called the collection agency and they said they would remove it if the original debtor agreed and sent them something saying to take it off.

i called the dentist office and the dumb bat that i talked to said she would sign something to have it taken off, but she wouldnt ask the collection agency to take it off (huh??). Anyways, how can i remove this? If i dispute it as "not mine" will they take it off the credit report since it is paid? Help! Thanks!!
