I too, received a communication from these people alleging that I owed money to a company that I had never heard of and that the interest on the debt was actually more than the debt itself. Since we have lived on the same street for the last seven years it is Impossible that a legitimate creditor would not have been able to find us if I in fact owed them some money. In their letter to me they cite the Federal Fair Debt Collections Act and make it sound like a legitimate organization etc. How many elderly and unsophisticated persons do you suppose have been tricked into paying them? In the letter they very Graciously give me thirty days to respond and make it sound as if, after the expiration of the thirty days even if you don't owe the money, by not challenging them, you, under Federal Law, will owe the money. We have also been deluged by repeated phone calls from people whom we suspect to be these people. They leave 800#'s with requests for me to call them back on a "personal" matter. I suspect that if I did, they would, very graciously, offer to "work out a payment plan" with me, get me to sign an agreement acknowledging this mysterious debt, and then have an enforceable obligation. I have seriously thought of telling them to go ahead and sue me, transferring the matter to District Court and then cross-petitioning against them. Do they have any assets, I suspect not..the outfit that set them up is an outfit, I believe in Georgia, which sets up collection agencies in various states for a 1200 dollar fee.
