Did you accountant file Or state taxes for the time you worked there ? Did you maintain a residence ?

What is the reason for their claim that you owe 40K in state taxes, does it even say ?

Have you contacted your accountant about this or the OR state treasury offices ?? Sounds to me like they think your status was different than it actually was.
