First, you MUST file your Answer to their Complaint. There's a link on WhyChat's site on how to write and file your Answer. You can most certainly contact the local atty and see if you can arrange payments, but don't do it over the phone, send your offer in writing, certified mail, RRR. If they won't deal with you now, then you will most likely be given the chance to settle it out in court. You can probably negotiate a settlement of less than the full balance but again, in writing and take it with you. Don't agree to anything unless its in writing and you get signatures.
