a soft inquiry would not affect your score. Only you would see it. This could be an AR (account review) from your current creditor) or a PRM which is promotional when someone checks only a part of your credit to see if they should send you spam mail or pre-approvals. The hard inquiry is done when you apply for credit and does affect your credit. The problem is the CRAs frequently misreport softs as hards or companies pull a hard for a full report with no pp and hope you are one of the 99.99% of consumers who does not know their rights. I would just call experian and ask.
