Where they mailed the letter from is actually irrelevent. A collection agency is required to abide by the state laws where the consumer resides, not the laws of the state where they mail the letter from.

You do have a case against them for violation of the FDCPA... But not because you've received a letter from them after you sent your C&D letter. A collection agency is actually allowed one more contact after you send them that letter. It allows them to inform you of how they intend to respond to your letter. If they chose to use their last contact as an attempt to collect the debt, then it's their mistake. The next contact is the one that will give you your case.

One question though... Did you specify in your letter that thy were to cease contact by all media? (not just mail or phone?)
