My daughter, who lives in Santa Rosa CA opened a new bank account at USbank. I made a deposit for her from my bank in Denver.

She checked her account and found that the balance was over $2000. My deposit to her account was $675. I checked my account to see if the bank had accidentally transfered the extra money from my account. It had not. My daughter checked with the bank to see if the balance was correct. The bank told her that it was correct. She used $ 1000 of the funds.

Three weeks later, the bank pulled the remaining money from her account and told her it was overdrawn $1000. She does not know what her rights are now. The bank is treating her like a criminal and will not explain to her what happened. Is she liable for the $1000 showing as an overdraft on her account? I think the bank should just call it even and say it made a mistake. Why penalize my daughter for spending the money in her account when she asked the bank if the balance was correct and they confirmed that it was correct. It was the banks error. They should just write it off and leave my daughter alone. What do you think?
