Im confused. I just received a letter from a collector that purchased an alleged debt of mine. Collector only is listed on my CR. Collector has given me the opportunity to validate. I accepted. What exactly should I expect? If they send me the name and address of alleged creditor have they complied with the law? I know there are no judgements. What exactly must they provide for validation? I used validation letter from this site to request original signed contract and any and all receipts. What if they just send me a copy of orig. creditors address? According to the Fair debt collections practices act, that's all they have to provide? What am I missing? Does this mean I have to write original creditor if the only validate with original creditors address?

From the FDCA "(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.
