Question about paid collections

I have recently received my husbands credit report and found 8 paid/collection accounts. I disputed these, and am wondering if they are validated do they just remain on his report, or are they removed because they are now paid. I disputed them as not having knowledge of the account on line. Is there more I can do? Thanks in advance,
