Yes, stop paying. As WhyChat said, it was illegal for them to even TRY to collect this deficiency if all the proper procedures and paperwork for the repo were not provided to you. As an illegal collection, you CAN make them go away and you can most likely get this off your credit report in a few months. YOu just have to get rid of this bogus collection agency FIRST.
