My ex and I jointly got a car loan. In the divorce, the judge granted her the car, also stating I would not be held accountable for paying for it. I just found out-from looking at my credit report that she had it voluntarily reposessed and now they are coming after ME for the money. Do the divorce papers decreed by a judge have no bearing on this situation? Also, if I am responsible for this debt (in the creditor's eyes), why wasn't I contacted in regards to the reposession. Am I not to have the option of regaining the car and paying for it myself? What are my rights?
