I jusat recieved a letter from CAMCO for a suppossd debt that orginated with MBNA, transferred to another company and ended up with CAMCO. THey were asking for $547 from a debt incurred in 1985.(I didn't have a credit card in 1985) I called the number and ended up speaking with a supervisor who said that were were willing to settle for $189. I asked if they would send me a ltter stating the offer and the reply was "No, you can pay the $189 now by a check over the phone or pay the $547 later on". I said to the guy- this doesn;t sound right to me. - his reply was thank you and he hung up on me. Pissed me off to no end!! I ended up calling back and asking to spead to his supervisor - I left him a voice mail stating my displeasure (yea right) and directing a phone call back to me before the end of the day or else I will contact the DE Attorny Generals offeice of consumer affairs. No phone call. Today I sent off a letter of complaint top the AG office with a copy of the CAMCO letter. At the same time I send a letter to CAMCO asking for an explanation of the debt - I sent it sertified with a return receipt. After looking through all tese posts I see that I am in good company. I will be senting complaints to the IL AG and my local BBB as well in Rockford IL.
