Inquiries lowering your credit score...

Does anyone know how many points your score is lowered by per inquiry?

I've heard that each inquiry deducts 1 point, then someone said it was 10 points. Then I heard somewhere that you can go to 10 different car dealerships, and 10 inquiries will only lower your score by 1 point?

So what is the truth here?
