They are unbelieveable... My husband and I are having the same problem! The car was impounded when a former friend was arrested driving it. The Police agreed to release it to us, but Fairlane told them we were delinquent, we wren't. We struggled with their inefficiency for 6 weeks. Meanwhile we became delinquent during negotiations, fearing we would continue to pay only for them to repossess the car from impound anyway. We finally came to agreement, by phone of course. By the time we secured another loan to pay them off, 3 days later, the car was repossessed. As of 9/03, they charged off 14k!!! They never sent anything in writing about the repossession, our account delinquency, or the charge off. How do we fight a company that doesn't exist? Don't they need to verify the debt with our original contracts, acount history, and/ or other proof of where they get this astronomical figure? Most importantly, how do we fight to keep this off our credit? Any other Fairlane victims?
