I received a nice little memo taday asking if I wanted to join in a class action lawsuit against these bastards.

I already have it signed and a stamped envelope ready to mail first thing tomorrow.

"The complaint in this class action alleges that Berks attempted to collect a debt by using a letter that had language in the letter that violated a federal law, the FDCPA. Defendant denies any wrongdoing. The parties have negotiated a proposed settlement".

As I read further, I see that the 2 main plaintiffs are getting $1,000 each (if the settlement is accepted by the court), and a remaing $9,500 shall be split upon 2,354 persons who appear to be class members. First minus the expenses of mailings/notice & distribution of funds to members (The ones that mail the form back).

If everyone sends it in, it would be a little over $3 for me, but usually, I suspect probably around 10% will, so I might actually get enough for a free dinner at Red Lobster, who knows?

Anyone else receive this, or know anything about this? I'm glad one of these asshole agencies finally has to pay out some money they scare tactic people into giving them. It's about time.
