As a fellow Mississippian, don't let this sorry excuse for a law office scare you...this is a debt...yes they can sue you and get a judgement. If you have another conversation with them I suggest that you write the Attorney General and the State Bar about the conduct of the law office (even if the lawyer did not personally do the act he/she is still responsible for the conduct of their staff), record the conversation if you can. If you had insurance when the accident happened then your insurance company should have been notified and would handle any claims...if not notify them now.
