Thank you very much for your quick response LadynRed! I have come to find out through days of research, that I have been very misinformed and quite naive about CA's and my rights. Your feedback has already been a huge help.
I'm in NJ, and my last contact with the collections dept of Disc. before they charged off my acct was within the past year. (The acct was "frozen" by Disc. about 5 years ago due to my inability to pay while out of work .) I'm embarrassed to admit that in the past I neglected keeping on top of my debt and records, but I am in the process of confirming charge off dates as well as researching the best ways to satisfy my debts with the CA's.

Forgive me if some of my below questions are basic, but I have been actively researching as much information I can before I possibly answer the phone with RMA at the other end. (I'm sure it is not a coincidence that I recieved 6 calls in about 2 hours from # 888-000-0000 on my cell phone immediately following a message from them at my home # .) (And people say telemarketers are bad.)

Is a fax from a CA like RMA sufficient as documentation of an agreement regarding a settlement / zero balance / payment plan? (A fax is all RMA would offer me that day.)

The settlement RMA offered seemed to be in the high range (80%) . How "negotiable" are settlements with a CA? Is pmt of a settlement to a CA definitely satisfying the debt?

I now realize I have a huge amount of backtracking to do, is it best to work with my most up to date credit reports and take it from there?

I have already provided checking acct information to RMA and other CA's, (I know, I could kick myself for ever letting them talk me into that.) Should I be taking actions concerning preventing them from accessing my acct any further without permission?

I'm certain that there are many people out there that have been manipulated by scum that call and give the impression that trouble is well on the way, but they can "help" you. And to think I have actually "thanked" these people for "helping" me. (I must have given them some good laughs in their call center.)

Now that I know better, I will do better. Thank you again in advance for your time and sharing your knowledge.
