here is our dilemma: i have a jcpenney account which was opened up in 1994. my wife and i got married in 1996 and the account went into collection in 1998. the date of last activity is 7/97. we need it off her bureau for the mortgage company. i put her on the card in 1997. how do i get her off. the mortgage company says she has to pay it off. jcpenney person told her that any payment made would be a "voluntary" payment and that it would be considered a gift. what should we do? it is in an inactive state. we only have a day to do something about it. paying it would be more or less throwing money away, but how do we get her off? only she has to have it off her credit report. house has to go in her name only. thanks duke
