SOL and credit reports

Question,

Can an alledged debt that's beyond SOL (like... 12 yrs)
be placed back onto your credit report if it's sold
from one collection agency to another?

Some guy from Scamco called and said that if they sold
the account (which is bogus anyways) it would be placed
on my credit report.

I tend to think that's a bulls#!t statement because if
it were true, why didn't it show up when Camco
purchased it???
