Yeah, I knew you were going to say that. I did ask him for something in writing, which he refused. I also offered to fax him something to sign, which he refused. Any suggestions on how to proceed? If they won't sign or write anything, it seems unlikely that I can get this removed by paying it. If I just pay it anyway, I have two questions: 1) Is a paid charge-off at least better than an unpaid one? 2) Do I make things any worse (like resetting the 7 year clock) by paying it? I can ask them to verify the debt, but the truth is, the disputed amount relates to when my account was cancelled, and I lack any proof that it was cancelled when I say it was. They'll send my service agreement and copies of my bills, and since I cancelled over the phone, it's their word against mine. Thanks again.
