I received a summons from a company called Sage Financial,Ltd A Maryland Corp Assigne of: Metris. When I looked up Metris online and found out they issued credit cards through Direct Merchants Bank (DMB) I do have a balace with DMB, but I had trouble paying them and I did establish a payment agreement about 2 years ago under hardship pogram. I was paying them up until the day they contacted me and told me that that the representative I had spoken to had made and error and that I did not qualify for that hardship. After calling DMB numerous times to try to resolve this, and even writig a letter to the president with no response, I gave up. I saw that they weren't willing to help me so I stop paying altogether. The Summons I received yesterday from Metris read at the top: IMORTANT!! You are being sued!! This is a Court Paper - A SUMMONS. It goes on to say that part of my wages could be garnished if I don't bring the summons to court or to a Lawyer. I don't know whether to take this serious or not because I recieved it in a regular envelope my address was hand written and the return address is in Jamaica, NY and no name.I find this very strange because the Lawyer name which is written on the summons is in Manhattan. I called the number and when I dial the Lawyers extension the recording says, "all representatives are busy". Also, I received the summons on 9/5/03 and the summons is dated 7/10/03. It says that I have 20 days to answer over at the Civil Court if I received this summons by mail. Is this a scare tactic? What should I do? Please help!!
