I received a summons stating I am being sued by Assest Financial Corp, with a lawyer representing them by the name of Booth & McCarthy. They say I owe $1,800 for something in in 1997. I have never spoken w/ anyone from this place. I don't even see anything on my report stating the claims of this debt. So basically I am confused about Third Parties and them suing, I thought that was not allowed. Also, I went to the freecreditreport.com site to get my report. I submitted my info and it says I had already received the report, but I have never been to the site nor did I ever ask or receive a credit report. I e-mailed them asking if someone had asked for my information and basically claiming to be me. Last thing, how do u know or figure out which third party collector goes to the account. In the past I received letters from another 3rd party collector and it never said for what account they were collecting for or trying to get money on the behalf of. The only thing I can ever remember anything for something like this is an account w/ Discover Card I had in 1994 while in College. It doesn't show anything on my credit report for them. When does something fall of your report for good? I am just at a loss. It's pretty sad though I am unemployed owed thousands in child support I don't get and have absolutly nothing and I mean no car or house, nothing. Sad, but try. Yet, they are going to come after ,me for $1,800, which they'll never see with or without court. When they are granted a judgement can u still place this when filing for Bankruptcy. I just think it's crazy someone purchased a account for way less than what they are suing me for. That's like fraud, if they paid $5 then isn't that what they should be entitled to if anything. The good thing is my Uncle is an attorney and for stuff like this, but he is in PA and I in WV so outside the info he may be able to give he's not that resourceful. I have seen a bunch of posts in relationship to this company and hope someone may be able to tell me anything on what if any rights I may have to this?
