My office recently receive a letter from the sheriff's office requesting my wages to be garnished. How can I find out if this is legal? Is this really the sheriff's office or a scare method from an collection agency? The debt is small $1200 and they required 10% to be garnished per check. Can interest be charged after this debt is paid? The letter states that once the debt is paid they will inform my employer or the interest owe on this account. The same law firm froze my account a few months back for almost the same amount that they are requesting to be garnished from my check. I also paid that amount to the same attorney's office. What are my rights?
