This is SOL but still watch out for Judge Greaseball who'll try the ol' "Well, you do owe the money and I don't care about some Federal dadgummery statutes" routine. Answer carefully, you can always plead "Lack Knowledge" and let these leaking vomit bags step in fresh dog plop by introducing lies as evidence, their usual stock in trade.
File FTC and State AG complaints right away, this does indeed help to redirect the attentions of these bullies away from you. You can also countersue for damages on this one with SOL as grounds, possibly as well for defamation.
