I recently had a message left on my phone regarding a summons he was trying to serve. I went on my county website and discovered that I was being sued in district court for a Credit Card debt by a third party collection agency. I think I may want to negotiate a settlement as opposed to going to court. Do I contact the attorny of record or the collection agency? Is it too late to negotiate a settlement now that they have filed suit? The debt is over two years old. What will they accept at this late date on a $9000 debt. Will other creditors find out about this settlement and proceed with law suits of their own.
This was a major fiasco due to identity theft. I was told I was responsible. At this time I would have a hard time documenting my case.
