Contact both OSI and Sherman by phone and mail. OSI processed your SIF (settlement in full). In order to have a settlement processed the third party collector (OSI in your case) must submit paperwork stating that they are offering such settlement and that you have paid the SIF. If the company does not do so Discover will then send your account to another collection agency as a last resort before litigation. You also need to notify sherman acq in writing that you dispute the debt and for what reason (you paid a SIF to OSI)or they will assume the debt is valid. It should take no more than 30 days to sort this problem out. If OSI does not comply with your request for correction you have the right to sue them (threaten it first) for violating the fair debt collection practices act. It is their burden to prove that your claims are false, and if you will the rep you spoke with is responsible for upto $5000.00 and teh company tself must pay for additional compensatory damages.
